Post-Care Instructions After Liquid Nitrogen Treatment

What to Expect:

  • After treatment, the area may turn red and swollen.

  • Crusting may form after several days. Do not pick at the scab.

  • A blister may form within 24 hours. This is normal. Do not pop the blister. Let it heal naturally.

Caring for the Area:

  • Wash your hands before caring for your liquid nitrogen treatment site.

  • Gently clear the area with warm water and liquid soap.

  • Apply a thick layer of Vaseline to the treated area to keep it moist and prevent scabbing.

  • You may cover the area with a clean bandage if you wish, though it is not necessary.

  • Moist wounds will heal faster than a dry or crusted wound.

Discomfort:

  • Mild discomfort or tenderness is common. You can take over-the-counter Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief, though it often is not needed.

Healing Time:

  • The area will usually heal within 1–3 weeks depending on the area treated.

  • The treated spot may leave a temporary pink mark, which should fade over time.

Avoid:

  • Do not scratch or pick at the treated area to prevent scarring.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals and exfoliants.

Infection Signs:

  • Fever, expanding redness, swelling, warmth, increased tenderness, and purulent drainage are signs of infection. If you notice these symptoms, please contact our office.
